FOIL: Penn Yan Sewer Capacity Studies 2025

What We Requested

In connection with the proposed 500-unit Route 14A development (McFetridge Farm), PennYanCitizens.com submitted a Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request seeking the following documents:

• Sewer capacity studies or analyses for the Penn Yan sewer system
• Water capacity studies for the village water treatment plant
• Electric load analyses for the Penn Yan Municipal Electric system
• Stormwater and drainage studies for the Route 14A project area
• Traffic impact studies submitted to or commissioned by the Penn Yan Planning Board

Why This Matters

New York State's SEQRA law requires that significant environmental and infrastructure impacts be analyzed and publicly disclosed before major development approvals advance. Sewer, water, electric, and traffic capacity are among the most consequential impacts of a 500-unit development on a small municipality. Penn Yan's sewer system and water treatment plant already serve customers in multiple towns and municipalities. Residents have a right to see these analyses before planning approvals proceed.
